Field Day: Greenhouse Pest Management at Salix and Sedge Farm
Hosted by the Kootenay & Boundary Farm Advisors (KBFA)
Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
Location: Salix and Sege Farm, Salmo
Brendan and Cali with Salix and Sedge Farm have been operating a year-round, certified organic greenhouse in Salmo since 2020. They grow greens through the fall and winter and transition to tomatoes and cucumbers early in the spring so that they can harvest as early as June. They have learned many lessons along the way about nutrient and pest management and have become keen observers for Integrated Pest Management. Brendan uses a range of beneficial insects for pest control, some of which he grows and cultivates at the farm through the winter so that he can release them in the spring. At this field day participants heard from Brendan and Cali about management strategies for greenhouse environments, common pests that they manage for and beneficial insects.
