Participants viewed 17 cover crop mixes in small plots, planted for a variety of different purposes at Blewett Mountain Gardens and Bent Plow Farm. Â A demonstration on flail mowing to incorporate cover crops into the soil. Discussions on the merits of different species and mixes, and simple, inexpensive ways to collect data to monitor the effectiveness of different cover crop strategies on your farm.

Host Farm:Â Scott Humphries & Emma Sowiak of Bent Plow Farm come from farming backgrounds in Ontario and have recently settled in Emma’s homeland, Nelson, to establish a market garden.
Presenter: Oscar Somasco of Blewett Mountain Gardens was formerly a university researcher and currently advises farmers transitioning to organic practices and soil conservation. He has been a small-scale farmer in the Kootenays for over 20 years.
