Field Day: Perennial Crops Perfect for the Kootenays at Zero Fox Tree Crops

On August 21, 2025, KBFA hosted a field day at Zero Fox Tree Crops with Brian Goldstein, who has cultivated the farm for over six years. Brian shared his unique approach to creating a productive and profitable agroforestry nursery using simple propagation techniques and low-tech, no-till farming.
Participants learned about cold-hardy perennials well-suited to the Kootenays, including bioregionally adapted nuts, berries, fruits, and herbs. The discussion also covered practical ways to integrate agroforestry into farm businesses without large equipment or major costs, as well as Brian’s methods for producing and applying homemade fertilizers.
This event offered a valuable opportunity for growers and community members to connect, exchange ideas, and explore ecological agriculture in practice.
