KBFA collaborated with Michael Silver of Earth Temple Gardens for a field day on incorporating medicinal herbs into a diversified market garden business.
Michael Silver, owner and operator of Earth Temple Gardens, has cultivated the farm for over 12 years, leading a team of 4 to 6 seasonal employees. He has developed a unique approach combining vegetable production with medicinal herb cultivation. His work includes growing and direct-marketing herbs such as Astragalus, Elecampane, and Echinacea, through local sales as well as shipping to customers across Canada.
This field day provided an opportunity to learn from Michael’s experience, discover which herbs grow well in the Kootenay region, and discuss the practical aspects of integrating medicinal herbs into market gardening, from production planning and harvest to processing and marketing.
