About: Electric fencing systems are an economical and effective way to protect crops and farm infrastructure from bears on both large- and small-scale agricultural operations. Join fellow farmers and Creston Valley Grizzly Coexistence Solutions for an interactive field day showcasing electric fencing at a large cherry orchard and a dairy yard, including stored feed and dead stock. Host farmers will share their firsthand experiences designing, installing, and managing these systems, with time for questions and discussion. Cost share programs through Creston Valley Grizzly Coexistence Solutions and the Environmental Farm Plan that fund electric fencing projects to deter bears will also be discussed.
Regional Agrologist with the Ministry of Agriculture, Jeff Nimmo, will be present to provide information on the compensation programs available to farmers to help with crop loss and damage.
